Paws in Distress is a nonprofit animal-welfare organisation founded by Nilani Vaas in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka. We provide daily meals and essential care for stray dogs and cats while helping sick and injured animals receive veterinary treatment, medication and life-saving care.

Nilani Vaas founded Paws in Distress to provide consistent care for stray animals who would otherwise have no reliable source of food or medical support. Much of the feeding, rescue work and veterinary care has been personally organised and funded by Nilani. Despite the financial cost and physical injuries she has experienced while helping animals, she continues the work.
